The Trident Leagues

I think, following yesterday's "holding statement" - which said that a "significant proportion" of Step 3 & 4 clubs voted to continue suspension of the leagues - there is a high likelihood that we don't restart.

I think that's madness. It means all the leagues above us will be playing. and all the leagues below us will be playing. And Steps 3 & 4 will be in stasis.

All the decent players at this level will drift off to other clubs (and that's fair enough). A boom in attendances for clubs pre-lockdown will be at an end.

"But", i hear you reply, "all this has happened because clubs in Tier 3 can't have crowds". But there must be an imaginative solution to that, including solidarity payments or representations to the government on clubs in Tier 3 being safe enough for restricted attendances. Why should Conny South clubs be subsidised but not Margate and Folkestone, at least for the temporary periods in which they are in Tier 3?

If it turns out that we re-start in January 2021 because Kent's placement in Tier 3 was shortlived, then that only serves to emphasise that it would be wrong for everyone else to be put on hold. As for northern leagues, where a greater number of clubs would be Behind Closed Doors, this is the problem with all the regional leagues being treated as one "Trident" system.

I, for one, will go to watch my local Essex Senior League team or AFC Wimbledon.
