That is when Non-League Football changed, I might add for the better. There was no promotion or relegation (I stand to be corrected) I will however add the competition was still very competitive. You have to remember the Amateur Cup was the major tournament in those days and was played in front of massive crowds, almost 9 thousand at Richmond Road in 1955 for that infamous drubbing by that Great Bishop Auckland team which was captained by the even greater Bob Hardisty.
