Supporters club (historical)

I was trying to compile a list of player of the year awards which seem to have started back in the 1960's as part of the Supporters Club.

This gets confusing because the club seemed to have started a myriad of awards themselves including sportsman of the year and players/managers player of the year etc.

But the records I have for Supporters player of the year seem to go a bit wobbly around 1980. Something in the back of my mind says the supporters club was disbanded around that time and then set up again and was wondering if any oldies could confirm this and what went on with the awards. Did the club just run players of the year awards themselves and if so did they still ask the supporters for their votes or just do it internally?

There was the "Kingsmeadow Cup" (the name was changed after Trevor Jones' death, and in his honour) competed for between 2003 and 2011.

Thanks Tim (and Rex)

I have an article on the first John Trevor shield supporters player of the year (Frankie Vines) in 90-91 while Dave Pearce was named "club player of the year". Nothing on supporters player of the year between 79-80 and 90-91, although quite a few which seemed to be given by "the club" in that period- do you remember the Supporters Club ceasing to exist and then being resurrected and if so whether supporters voted on player of the year?

Full list from 60's and 70's was:

1968-1969 Micky Preston
1969-1970 Steve Markham
1970-1971 John Doyle
1971-1972 Alan Green
1972-1973 Trevor Waughman
1973-1974 John Doyle
1974-1975 Alan Kelsall
1975-1976 Phil Dade
1976-1977 Dave Collyer
1977-1978 Dave Dyer
1978-1979 Giles Stille
1979-1980 Jim Baptie

There was also a K's Web player of the year for a while - the first one being our '98 promotion year (Pitcher I think, maybe Patto). Lance Key got a couple too I think.

Yeah, reading the thread again, my contribution was a bit wide of the mark - but perhaps worthy of a side-note?
