A friendly, thoughtful man and an obviously talented footballer. It will forever remain a mystery what went wrong....

The wording of the statement on the Hampton website suggested we might have paid him to end his contract early rather than they paid a transfer fee. But these things are always a bit unclear.

Don't know. The wording is ambiguous. It does happen. Ie. Player is on contract for a year and could stay and collect his money and can't be forced to leave. So encourage player to leave by reaching settlement on remainder of contract. Unless another club is itching to both match wages and pay fee. It highlights the pros and cons of putting players on a contract. It may be the only way to attract a certain level of player but if it doesnt work out then it is a bind.

You know, signing a player on contract is a lot like making love to a beautiful woman...

Doesn't make any sense financially. Offload, pay him for a season with another club and no fee from Hampton.

That's stupid, paying him off when a transfer fee to us was due.

"That's stupid, paying him off when a transfer fee to us was due."

But, as explained, he was on a hefty contract lasting a year. No club in their right mind is going to pay off that contract and then pay a transfer fee, FFS.

Was brilliant at Billericay but lost his form with us. Could be playing in a poor team or personnel not fitting in.
