Club legend - Match 499

By John Bangs4/9 00:04Wed Sep 4 00:04:27 2019

Saturday’s FA Cup match against Walton Casuals will be Rob Tolfrey’s 499th match and so his 500th match will either be a FA Cup replay on 10 September or 14 September against Bowers and Pitsea.

The term legend is often over used but entirely warranted in Rob’s case.

Tim Wells has suggested we collect some of people’s recollections of some of the many high points in Rob’s time with Kingstonian and include this in the Programme for the Bowers and Pitsea match.

I rather lost count of great penalty saves. I do remember one particularly stunning save that prompted a Dulwich fan to post “Rob Tolfrey isn’t human” when he made what was basically an impossible save.

Found this film clip following Rob’s testimonial
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zJDaeJ_33Pw

Can Forum members add lots of remembrances that can be included.

I've just watched that video and, if you haven't already done so I urge you to so. Unbelievable to think that was four years ago and Rob has been our Number One for ten years now.

The video shows that Rob is not only a fantastic goalkeeper but also a true gentleman; kind, humble and loyal - everything that is great about non league football.

I've been very fortunate to see some great keepers in my time following Ks, including Steve Farrelly and Luke Garrard, but Rob Tolfrey stands shoulder to shoulder with them both.

Apologies that I can't be with you for your 500th, Rob. I hope you have a great game and many more to come.

Don't You Wish Your Keeper Was Rob Tolfrey!?!

Tolfrey 500th game will either the FA Cup 2nd qualifying round replay , Worthing Away, Cheshunt at home or Carshalton away if cheshunt make the FA Cup 3rd qualifiing round.

I only know this has I’ve doubled checked this using the Ks programme and that I’ve been keeping track

Hi Ollie

I shared your post with John Fenwick who relied

“If you look in Sunday’s programme (page 27) – Rob’s total is 496 appearances plus 2 as a sub, which equals 498. I keep my own records – independent of Robert – and agree with this total.

Therefore Sunday will be 499 and either a Walton Casuals replay (Away) or Bowers and Pitsea (Home) will be 500”.

Robert Wooldridge agreed and replied: ...... “ yes I'm in agreement with John, Rob's 500th is the game after Sunday Maybe the 2 subs' appearances are causing confusion?”

Hi

Checked the programme and have to admit I was wrong, missed the sub appearances. So I hold my hands up and admit I messed up.

Sorry for the confusion

Also attending the rapps funerals , both Doug and Barb .
Having a great family.

Rob Tolfrey Penalty saves

Michael Cox agreed about Merstham and said......”Probably the obvious choice, but the one from Dan Bennett at Merstham.was particularly memorable. Felt like we were down if that had gone in...”

Ali Kazemi said.... “He saved three in a shootout away at Walton & Hersham”

When he invoked the spirit of Wayne Shaw & hauled ass on the Bognor fans is one of my highlights of the era of Tolfs! On the pitch it's got to be his heroics in a FA Cup replay penalty shoot out against Margate at KM, cant remember what season that was.

Tolfs is the best in the business and a real nice lad.

He's got time for everyone and his Mum and Grandpop Norm are lovely.

Ks 3 2 up ,but Laidlaw got sent off, around 44th min
Rob made a SPECTACULAR mid turn horizontal ( how many more adjectives do you need, ) save to fist over a certian goal from a shot by that man.. Alas not to be denied he got equaliser

Maybe it was match captured on i phone

Thanks very much for this Tim.

That's also my favourite Rob Tolfrey game and thanks for reminding me of it. He was stunning in that second-half, and his many amazing saves won us an unlikely point, a point that wouldn't have even been possible without Rob's talent and will-to-win.

We truly are lucky to have him.
