Harringay's other sport (demised)

By a krinkly30/9/2019 19:38Mon Sep 30 19:38:04 2019

One thing about having Freesat is that all the BBC regional TV stations are available, so BBC1 South news is a welcome alternative to the London Bubble nothing exists outside the M25 regional news we suffer in Guildford via Freeview. Today South had a news item about a team participating at the top level in a thriving national sport, a sport once popular in London.

Harringey had a team competing successfully for a while during the heyday of this sport in London, who were they?

P.S. Come on you K's!!!

This is a sport that has left London behind. You live in the BBC South area, think about the sports that get reported.

Racers were the last team from 1947 to 1954, during that time they had success in the National league.

A news item on BBBC1 South about Poole Pirates (one of the top clubs) got me looking for the history of the now defunct London sport.

The track was at the bottom of Jubilee Way.

I think it folded early 80's.

Riverhill and the go-carting still thriving today although rather expensive.
Surbiton Town and their Sunday football team still going as well as other sports as well as a well stocked bar and popular function room overlooking not only a splendid green but the carting itself.
Rather hidden away which is maybe the beauty of it.

Ahhh not the powered sport, Harringay Racers were Motorcycle Speedway as are Poole Pirates. I do remember that course at the new Lidl HQ site, I thought it was for GoCarts.
