Great to see Mind in Kingston using social media to promote the match.

They tweeted and plugged on Instagram saying:

“ Join the Kingstonian FC vs Merstham FC match this Saturday, which is sponsored in support of our football team Kingstonian Mind United! instagram.com/p/B5pacolnZMS/…

The event includes a visit from the Mayor of Kingston which is helpful in terms of promoting our work with Mind in Kingston and the Club

Thanks Olde School. I seem to remember you saying that the Kingston Working Men’s Club had done some fundraising for Mind. If you think they might be interested in doing this for Mind’s football project please do let me know.

I agree and so too does the Club. People have a 1 in 4 chance of developing mental health problems in their life times so this really is an issue that should be everybody’s business. Our friends and people we love have the same chance of developing problems so this impacts on very many families.

On Saturday we are specifically fundraising for Mind in Kingston’s football project which has been rebranded as “Kingstonian Mind United “ as part of a long term partnership. The exercise and friendships involved in sport are very good for people’s mental heath and emotional wellbeing so this football project is seen as being very beneficial. We hope fans will give generously to the bucket collection on Saturday and maybe buy some extra 50/50 or Golden Goals tickets as the proceeds are being donated to Mind.

Also on Saturday we have a guest coming, Martin Emms, who is a descendant of the Emms family who played a big part in the K's history. Aside from Danny Emms who was one of the top pre WW1 players, Sammy Emms was one of the movers and shakers at the club from early 1920's right through to the 1960's and hopefully I will pick up some useful stuff for the history website.

If any of the older fans have memories of Sammy then you may wish to seek out Martin who will probably be in the directors "lounge"/seats area of the ground.

That sounds really interesting and not something I knew about.

It could be worth doing an article for the website if you have a few more details and maybe a photo? This would also be an opportunity to profile your excellent Ks history website
