Just a light drizzle at Clapham Junction yesterday evening. When I got out at Tolworth absolutely torrential. Shame the ref was delayed getting to the ground (not sure why). Know it was inconvenient for all but that amount of rain in such a short time frame wasn't going anywhere despite heroic efforts with the forking. Just hope Lewes is on Saturday but forecast makes that iffy. Headache for catching up before seasons end.

No criticism of anyone associated with this forum - but what an absolute shit show. Calling of a game like 40 minutes before kick off, when players, officials and fans have been planning their evening around it. Not as though rain wasn't forecast on an already sodden pitch...

The pitch was okay yesterday when Casuals played last night and the morning dry. So the pitch was not previously waterlogged. The rain was far heavier than predicted in the weather forecast I read this morning. There was a somewhat freakish downpour.

Sorry John, but there are two conflicting issues here; the desire to get the game played (full credit to those manning the pitchforks) and a duty to respect the interests of the players, officials and supporters of the game.

To excuse the late cancellation of tonight's game by saying that the weather was "freakish" on the back of three storms in as many weeks, and on a pitch that was played on only yesterday, is ridiculous.

I am not sure what the previous storms have to do with it. The pitch was playable last night and even more so at lunch time. The was therefore no apparent need for a pitch inspection at that point.

The cancellation of the game could then only be confirmed by the referee so I do understand the difficulty that arose as inconvenient as it was.

Well said. Was a mad downpour. If the pitch was fine in the afternoon then the storms of weeks gone by are pretty irrelevant.

A shame and annoying for those of us who had started our journey but that's the English weather for you.

Maybe we need to look at the bigger picture, longer-term?

Football at our level will often need ground-sharing to make it financially sustainable and that, in turn, will need better stadiums and pitches (4G, etc) to make it practical.

Whilst not the full facts of Casuals and Ks on going viability it does seem to make some sense to ground share. I would imagine that unless other funding was available a large chunk of the Womble windfall would be taken up installing artificial playing surface.
I Don't think, although it would be nice, much work is required to KGF for football at this level. Maybe if either club gained promotion?

Casuals have planning permission for improvements but reckon they cannot afford them. The place has deteriorated recently, rubbish not cleared and poor toilet facilities. If either club are looking at promotion then the current set up comes up very short of the grading needed.

A club can apply to the FOOTBALL FOUNDATION for artificial
pitch funding, grants range from 10,000 to 500,000 pounds,
so the need to put any of the clubs money into the project
may well be unnecessary.

Quite correct Old and grey. I presume the size of grant has conditions attached?

The amount granted would usually be conditional on the amount the wider community could use the facility.

Cant be with you here John on this one.
Pitch must have been heavy last night and the rain this afternoon which was forecast must have put great doubt in and there should have been more consideration for fams and players
Was there no groundsman around to see the deteriation and to advise that a local ref should be called in.You dont have to wait for the match ref to turn up.

If we are to stay long term at KGF then the solution
must be 3 or 4g artificial playing surface, more postponements
may see us playing four games in a 7 day period.
Feel sorry for you if you have or are travelling long distance.

Our trip tonight if it was away would have started at probably 4.30 and plodden through London or around the M25.
Many would have time off work.
Tough for us but a thought for our visitors.
