Isthmian years 63/64

Looking back at the league in 1963/64 on the Isthmian league website
when Ks finished 3rd, just below Wimbledon and Hendon.
Ks were beaten semi finalists in the FA amateur cup, losing to
Enfield. Enfield played Crook Town in the Wembley final and Crook Town
we're a big club in their own right from the north east.
They had a certain Derek Dowson in their line up. Could he be related
to 'our own Dowse'?. In the line up picture, he certainly has some resemblance.
Perhaps some of our senior members could throw some light on this?

I remember the gut wrenching disappointment of that
SEMI-FINAL defeat, even more so because at STAMFORD
BRIDGE we should have won the tie having several goal
bound efforts cleared inches from the line.
The only thing i can remember from the replay at CRAVEN
COTTAGE is DENIS MONTAGUE equalising 10 minutes from
time only for ENFIELD to retake the lead a minute later.

Enfield went onnto play Crook Town in the final and lost after losing their goalkeeper to injury. Jimmy Goodfellow who scoredvthe equalising goal for Crook sadly passed away last week. In a past recollection Jimmy, soon after signed for Bishop Auckland managed by Lawrie McMenemy.
In 1964 Crook Town team was picked by committee which was the same at Kingstonian until the late fifties.

That was my last season in Kingston. I have been following K's through the media and now lately with social media etc. and I am grateful for this modern technology that the flame is kept alive, what ever one may think of modern technology. A year later I married my dear wife and next month, May, if the lockdown permits we will be celebrating our 55th wedding anniversary. In 2000 we we went to Wembley almost 40 years to the day of the 1960 FAAC final. Payback was fulfilled by winning the FA Trophy no last minute goals this time to ruin the day. Whenever next season starts I shall be logging on to 'The K's In Point' Only too happy to make comments on this wonderful Forum. Come on you K's. PS 'I deliberately arranged our wedding day out of season so as not to clash with football'
