Old Friends in Big Trouble
Re: Old Friends in Big Trouble
This is going to become widespread and is another factor to consider when decisions are taken on the resumption of leagues. Simply put, clubs need revenue, including from gate receipts. If that can be done in September with a manageably acceptable level of risk (what this means is open to debate), then it should happen.
Applicable to all other areas of the economy, i feel as if there is an assumption afoot that extending restrictions to the winter and beyond will be "painful" but the businesses and organisations will "rise" again in the Spring. In other words: wait a bit longer, there is no need to rush. Unfortunately, evidence would suggest that closures can and will be permanent, as will the job losses. This is before we even get to the long-term effect on children of school closures.
None of this is a defence of the government's cackhanded, incompetent and confusing "plan" for reopening.
