Latin Quiz: 'Palmam qui meruit ferat'
Kingstonian FC share their motto “Palmam qui meruit ferat” ('let he who has earned it bear the palm') with a famous historical figure. I did not know who until someone pointed this out yesterday. So the Latn quiz question of the day is who was this ?

There is quite a few references to the motto, but I believe the answer is LORD NELSON
Keith.
Why worry, be happy.

That is correct.
it seems back in the old day’s working class people thought it looked good to have Latin mottos. Unfortunately, in our case, this didn’t stretch to spelling it correctly! For many years, versions of our club crest contained a spelling mistake which was only corrected a few years ago. ...... Saying “Palman ” Instead of “Palmam”

Think it got lost when am image/shirt crease made the 'palmam' look like a 'palman' when it was being replicated some years back. It's taken a lot of time to get the right version everywhere, but nearly there!

Whenever the mistake happened, it is not that recent. For example, the 1985 centenary badge is misspelled. Programmes from 1957/58 onwards contained the spelling mistake.
The only correctly spelled mottos on Kingstonian badges I have seen are from the last couple of years

That reminds me of a puzzle on the badge I have never been able to answer as to what the R underneath the three fishes stands for?
This can be seen on the 1956/57 front page of the programme:

The only guess I could make was maybe Royal Borough?

Yes, I wondered about that but if you don’t know I guess that may be lost in the midst of time.
However, without your excellent KsArchives site so much of this stuff would have already disappeared.

Yes, it was me that pointed out the error but it took a while for new designs of the crest to show the correct spelling .
