Have we ever had a political party leader? I seem to recall Ed Davey was known to show an interest in K's when we were famous, or am I thinking of somebody else?

For the older fan, does anyone else recall David Essex coming down to KM when we were decent and I shouted he only had one hit, we spent the whole half singing his many many hits to him, such larks . Wrong again Ian..

The other candidate for the lib dem leadership, the likeable if somewhat eccentric, Layla Moran is a genuine football fan, sponsored this early day motion to recognise the efforts her local club had taken in this crisis /edm.parliament.uk/early-day-motion/56898/oxford-united-football-clubs-response-to-covid19 also vocal advocate for safe standing.

Ed Davey strikes me as more box seat at Twickenham than on the terraces.

He’s been once I think, he couldn’t be bothered to congratulate us on our cup runs. Very few people at the guildhall care about Ks except Jon and a couple others (don’t know there names) .

I am going back a long way. Rural District Councillors were not elected, they were ex- officio , these were generally people who new people. However due to the 1974 reorganisation we lost our RUDC ( Rural District Council status)
Now we are part of a Unitary Authority, with 196 members now controlling the old County Council.
As you say awful politicians.

Ed Davey was at the last game at Kingsmeadow although this was a few weeks before the general election so a good PR exercise. I’ve not seen him at a game since.

I did see two interesting posts yesterday following his election to party leader. One post was a picture of the Wembley executive box seating plan; Ed had two seats-for him and a guest.

The other post stated that he voted 2415 times in line with the Tory whip.

Looks like he’s clapping H&W players rather than Ks

However to be fair his agent at the last election is a fan - although an occasional visitor

Chrissie Hitchcock (RIP) was an excellent councilor and mayor I believe twice which is unusual was a regular supporter both in the chamber and fairly often at the ground.
Tory leaning Lib Dem Sir Ed,I only remember once and Labours Irish pro brexit female whose name escapes me came once and stayed a long time and enjoyed the hospitality with the driver in ministerial car waiting outside.
Obviously we have our own local councilor who tries his best with the council and is a real boost for us but in the day all the major politicians just jumped on when it suited them as of coarse politicians generally do.Sadly we are so often taken in by them.

What would you expect the MP to do? There isn’t really much within their remit they could do to assist Ks.

Also the Kingston and Surbiton constituency does not cover the whole of Kingston Borough so Ed Davey is not the MP for the whole of the Borough. The north of the RBK ie most of Norbiton, Coombe, Kingston Hill, Richmond Road after Kingston Station is in the Richmond Park constituency.

The Richmond Road ground if it existed today would be in the Richmond Park constituency.

Yes we know the borders and vote in our niche area and yes Richmond Road would be Lib Dem territory today whereas Kingsmeadow is Sir Eds but just.
Sir Ed is a good MP for us in the area but you may feel there is a very poor choice.

And the Liberal didn't do much better "subject to some interruption"

http://www.kingstonianhistory.co.uk/Pre%201918/1909-1910/KOT-1910-01-12-LiberalMeeting.htm

Which includes a lesson for all of us:

"No good sportsman complains of a reference to the council of the football association because he knows their decision will be right"
