Return to Kingsmeadow

Hi, new poster, and apologies if this has been done to death. Just returned to the borough after several years abroad, and was wondering if with the hypocrites moving back to Wimbledon, would Chelsea be open to having the K's back at Kingsmeadow? Who plays there at the minute the women and youths? I know they don't need the money to rent it to a third party, but it may do them some good locally in terms of PR?

Probably way off the mark, but just wondered.

Welcome back!

Most of us would agree with everything you say but, apparently Chelsea stipulated that Ks could not play at Kingsmeadow as a condition of buying the ground off AFCW. They seemingly don't care about the PR angle on this and, to be fair, it's not as though the public or the media really give them or the Wombles a hard time over it.

As Chelsea now use the ground for their Women's team on Sundays, you'd have thought that a ground-share with a non-league team playing on Saturdays would make good sense. Others point out however, that Kingsmeadow has been enlarged so much since we played there, that it's no longer really suitable for us. For instance, the Cambridge Road End is now a huge stand, too large (in our latter days playing there) to justify opening it for our games.

Again, other people suggest that the Kingsmeadow Athletics stadium would be good for us as a new home. Certainly it is in the town (not just in the borough, or in the general area) and there are a number of examples where athletics and football co-exist quite happily.

Hope that helps?

thanks Rex, ah right, so seems that its dead in the water. The Athletics ground would be better location-wise, just I've never liked the set up with the track etc. Just need to ship in a few hundred men in uniforms and we can recreate 70's soviet bloc England away games.

Will be interesting to see where we are with this in 5 years.
