Pre-season jitters.

Ok, so now I'm getting a little concerned pre-season about
the delayed update on the ground situation and the lack
of squad news about new signings.
Wev'e had plenty of depressing news of 'retained' players changing their minds and leaving. In fairly recent times, we have had three managers that have left suddenly, all of which had great success in taking their new clubs to a higher level (Dowse, Brennan & Edwards. Is it a siimple question of these
personnel being promised one thing by the club but offered another to make them depart suddenly?
Who on earth will be playing for Ks in the next couple of weeks?0

Understandable to be concerned. I was reading the statement from the Chesham chairman who said there is a delay to the registrations due to a new system. Whether that applied only to the Southern League I don’t know. With regard to the managers you mentioned Dowse was with us seven years and after that time most would want a new challenge. Remembering the time of Dean Brennan I think soon after he joined us there was a family issue ( I maybe wrong but think his daughter was in an accident) and Craig was really based in Essex not only football but also business. Who knows the background. I think we have in the Isthmian premier more than any other league a two tier status. Clubs within the M25 struggle to reach 400 average yet those outside are in the 500 plus. Hornchurch and Enfield struggled for crowds compared with Worthing Folkestone and Lewis. In some ways I am envious of Leatherhead and wouldn’t be surprised if their gates increased even though a division lower.
More local derbies, less travelling and promotion candidates? With the geographical layout I think most Isthmian premier clubs would prefer to be a step higher and I doubt in National South the clubs towards the west wouldn’t be travelling much further.

After the first couple of friendliest we will have a better idea of where we are and more importantly the manager will. He is not inexperienced at our level. We have had recent experience of signing players with high expectations only to be disappointed and so shouldn’t be surprised to sign some unknowns who will surprise us. Let’s wait and see.
