Margate. Apathy being stirred-up already?
This is not meant as a shit-stirring post.
People are on holiday and many clubs struggle for supporters to volunteer and for officials to cover for colleagues in August.
...and Gary's just a tad down at the moment... And tends towards the unfashionably realistic.
However, even given the general negativity on here over the last few months, I found the lack of enthusiasm for the coach to Margate surprising. I know Margate in August is a "Day Out" trip and a minibus or coach arriving at 2pm might not suit some, but I was still surprised at an almost total lack of takers.
There are no trains at all. I doubt I'll go. Ten or fifteen years ago, cycling 80 miles to an August game on the Kent coast wasn't out of the question. Nor was pedalling back pissed. I'm under no illusions that I'd make it one way in less than about 8 hours these days and there's no way I could get back. I don't drive or ride motorcycles pissed, so a road trip isn't attractive. I've yet to look at a National Express coach, but it's not out of the question.
*Edit* - can get a respectably speedy morning coach to Margate for a tenner... But return coaches are sold out.
I think going on the "B" of the bang this season may well be more important than usual and avoiding an early FA Cup banana skin is crucial.

Sorry Kylie what do you mean? Margate minibus is going fine and almost full now.
You may be confused by the regrettable cancellation of 2 extra Rakats trialled for August HOME games.

I was under the impression that a coach to Margate had been tentatively looked into. I may be wrong. Not much time to manoeuvre between fixture release and opening day.
I think the Tolworth - Tooting minibus scheme was always a mite optimistic.

From Tolworth to Imperial Fields. Bus to station, train to Wimbledon, tram to Mitcham then bus/walk. Last Wednesday i left the ground at 09.40pm I got home at 11.00pm. Mini-bus/small coach would take approx. 30 minutes. We need to encourage supporters now otherwise they will be lost forever. It is a pity that the club did not follow the Leatherhead travel by mini coach arrangements which was subsidised by Mark Anderson.

1. It’s only 1hr ish by public transport - your making it like a 4 hour round trip
2. No one was interested in it partly because It was costly because of the cost of fuel.
3. Leatherhead is far more further away then tooting
4. Tooting unlike Leatherhead is in the Oyster card zone
5. Times were different, wasn’t dealing with everything going up in price a few years ago like they are now. Hence why he’s probably not subsidizing it.
The world has changed a lot since the Leatherhead year

As clearly stated before (and on main website under TRAVEL) we have a Margate travel announced, clearly confirmed, and now full. Please stop confusing yourself, and check either on the website under TRAVEL or main News or email us.

That’s brilliant that the coach is full.
I’ve used this travel before and it is brilliant and well worth using and supporting.
If I’d been in London at the weekend I would definitely have used it.
