The Queen

Perhaps this is not the place with a tribute to Queen Elizabeth 2.
Personally I think the Queen was amazing to reign for 70 yrs. I saw her in the Royal Borough passing through on the odd occasion.
That is all I have to say.

I certainly agree with you to give unselfish duty to
the country representing us home and abroad always
with a smile must take real commitment .
When you consider the behaviour of our elected
representatives the late QUEEN was a human being
of the highest order.
GOD SAVE THE KING.

She was a lovely person, I'm sure.
An heridtary Head of State shames us as a democracy. No elected representative should kneel before wealth or status. The very idea of "Majesty" is absurd. The notion of "King" infantilises us all. The concept of the "Divine Right of Kings" should embarrass even members of our Establishment Church.
The Royal Family (sic) simultaneously underpins, symbolises and legitimises the class system that is so damaging to the United Kingdom.
Citizen. Not subject.

There’s not a lot I can disagree although one of the selling points of Brexit was to rid ourselves of unelected European officials … oh

So the alternative is electing some celebrity or business
person as PRESIDENT is it ,well I am no rabid ROYALIST
but history and a QUEEN who kept her council who rose above
hate and loathing to shake the hand of former IRA men that for me
is what monarchy is about .
She was above the divisive world of political squabbles and we shall
never see her like again.
GOD SAVE THE KING.

But it was that world of political squabbles that has more impact on my day to day life.
Whose to say what the next monarch or two will will be like?
Is the Royal Family popularity fragile if so much rest upon the monarch's character?

Yes the character of members of the Royal Family
is of the utmost importance.
The QUEEN new that better than anybody and that
enabled her to reign as she did with dignity and
diplomacy.
Skills that our political masters are sorely lacking.
They reign because as has been evident over the
past few days the peoples of our islands wish it to
be this way.
GOD SAVE THE KING.

You are correct that the majority are in favour of an unelected constitutional head of state.
Is there a mechanism to remove a monarch who fails to carry out the duties in an acceptable manner in the view of their subjects?

I consider myself a citizen not a subject.
Once the the mournathon is over , I will be , if allowed, be campaigning for a Republic and a democratic 2nd chamber.
An effective striker first tho please.

1688?
1649 wasn’t a great example as the replacement was unsavoury too

There are pros and cons of both elected or unelected head of state.
There seems to be a lot of praise for the late queen which is prehaps support for the individual and not always for the institute of unelected head of state.
