We are sponsoring four matches this season and match balls for all league matches, as has been the case for the previous two seasons.

I’m wondering exactly what is the issue here? Is the Supporters Club being somehow criticised for supporting the club?

I’m not a supporters club member, so not my business but nonetheless I’m curious

what’s the thinking behind a 2-year block booking of one of the sponsorships available?

Is everyone afraid to ask the real, real question?

Why is the Club failing to attract sponsors (matchday, shirt, ball) from the usual sources?

i think there's two parts.

there's why does the club fail to attract business other than its directors' businesses....?
lots of quick answers about cost of living, being in Mithcam, not being proactive etc

but separately, there's why does the Supporters Club give money in a block booking to the club? This presumably stops others from booking that same sponsorship opportunity - when the club could be, for example, running more coaches to loss-making away games?

Like i say, I'm not a member (mostly cos SC seems too submissive to the club). but still curious to know why this standing order booking is made. the volunteers do tireless work - there'd be no club without them - and the potatoes are great, yet from my viewpoint raised revenues go into the same pool of cash which has reduced by £250k without really seeing anything tangible.

happy to be told why i'm wrong. but if i think it, i reckon others do too

How many potential sponsors have been turned away because the supporters’ club has made a block booking? I would be astonished if the answer is higher than zero!

The answer actually is nil as the Supporters Club have an agreement with the club that if anyone wants to sponsor a ball for a particular match we will surrender the slot.

Jon

The Supporters Club does provide away travel to most games. Last season we trialled providing some larger coaches to away games but did not get enough take up to be financially viable.

As to sponsorships, there are plenty of remaining options for sponsorship.

Having said the above, the policies of the Supporters Club are decided by it’s members at it’s meetings.

not at all

I think it’s great that despite having so few matchday sponsors the club is still getting the same amount of sponsorship money in. very important for its survival

There once was a time when the supporters club would help fund the signing of players-Tim Sills being the most notable.

Now it seems they are keeping the club alive.

I understand Taimour is writing a book titled ‘the death of the Ks’.

If you pre order now he will use the funds to sponsor a game whilst the club still exists!

These are grim times. I have not been down this season mostly because of my coaching commitments at the weekend. Any time I do have spare in a hectic schedule, coming over is not appealing. It's like there is a cloud hanging over the club, and when added to the increased time and distance to get yo home games from Reading, it just isn't appealing to come to at the moment.

One of the major problems is that in the situation we are in we need to really think outside the box to try and get people through the door and create a buzz around the place. Unfortunately, I'm not sure the board are really capable of doing this, and I'm not sure we have enough people left to drive it from a fan point of view.

Over the last few years, the board may have failed to catch the imagination of locals but we as supporters have not really tried anything either. Yes the decision to move to Tooting looks like a bad one, but we as supporters maybe need to look at ourselves as to how much we want the club to be saved. I know we are all busy, but surely we are coming to the point where we need to try something.

Such an idea might be a pay what you can afford scheme. In these austerity times it might attract a bit of attention as well as get people through the door. Another might be aligning with causes that people are passionate about such fair pay for workers, even putting on gigs after matches.

These may not be great ideas, but we need to do something, because if we don't do something soon, it may be too late.

Excellent proactive post. I am happy to be part of a small group of people for a brainstorming meeting and have a couple of ideas myself.. If there is a lot of interest no reason why there can’t be more than one group. Once ideas have been formulated then we can progress to presenting them to a wider group of supporters via zoom for feedback in conjunction with director(s) participation.

Do we know how much it will cost & release date. Could one be sent to Sir Ed, remind him we did exist. Did use Ks for a political stunt (when he lost his seat for the short time before regaining it) & never been seen near Ks since. Depending on cost I’ll pay for his copy of the book & delivery.

I think it’s about £10 a copy Ollie. On the basis that there’s about 25 fans left which will hopefully mean he will scramble together £250 to sponsor a match. If that’s not enough maybe the supporters club can top it up.

Sorry Ollie, no delivery available but the completed book will be available at all good book shops in the Mitcham area.

IMO what’s happening right now isn’t the fault of the MP.

arguably the council, arguably the club, arguably us as fans, arguably the board, arguably bad luck.

Looking in from the outside would it be easy to think the root cause is a case of a club chasing success in a way that's unsustainable ?

If so, alas not uncommon in the world of football.
Whether the council should have helped maybe maybe not but,in these austerity 2.0 times I 'd think it's way down on the list of priorities for them.

Did the council transfer some land they owned to AFCW to expand seating, in return for the tenancy Ks?
