Total disgrace there is no transport on a match where we have gone on a winning run but need all the support we can get againt a top side.
What about the older members and the young ones on a dark night

If members of the supporters club decide such matters, those who feel strongly may I suggest politely ,if you can, join. Might you then be more able to influence change?

Many have joined over the years and helped not only financially over many years but sadly not attending any more for reasons we have gone over at length. It wont help going over this olde and negativity again.
Maybe a new thinking and a new drive for the SC to gain more members and to encourage previous members. If nothing socially ever happening and many not attending matches just signing up the new and the old will be impossible.Maybe the answer is at least partlt there.

Sorry Old School but this is just nonsense . We frequently get people suggesting transport for others to use but not, of course ,themselves. We have not recently had sufficient interest in transport for midweek league matches . We cannot afford to run coaches with hardly anyone on them. Also keep in mind that travel within zone 6 is free for some people and public readily available to this particular ground.

No JB cant agree at all.
Any profit made on money earnt over the season doesnt always have to be calculated on a profitable basis on away day travel on a Tuesday night in Essex indeed on what is to be the coldest night of the year.
Fans travelling always spurs on the players as Bognor showed when the run of success started.Somewhere as well I am sure there should be some duty of care toward the older and younger fans.
I do know and understand the difficulties but I am sure a small bus should be a possiblility

Please don't lump all us 'older fans' together.
Yes it would be ideal for a club to provide facilities and transport for those who require it,but that's unlikely isn't.

Let's differentiate here - this is the supporters club we're talking about, not the football club. The supporters should be their priority.

Let's differentiate it's the members of the SC that set the priorities not non members.
Maybe those who want to differ can join to have a meaningful say or organise loss making mini busses themselves.

Sorry John, but that is a dreadful reply.
Jon was asking asking about the relative costs of sponsoring a coach to an away game, versus sponsoring a match. I'd be interested to know the answer; I'm sure a lot of other people would be too.
Arguably, the SC sponsoring a match benefits absolutely nobody - you could just give the Club the money. OSK is absolutely right to say that sponsoring a coach to an away game benefits the supporters and the players. Nobody needs to email the SC to make the point that sponsoring a SUPPORTERS coach is a much better use of Supporters' Club money.

You are right that whether the Supporters Club sponsors a match or just gives the club the money makes little difference as the profile of the supporters Club will be much the same either way. The tiny advantage of sponsoring a game is that it shows publicly the Supporters Club are doing something useful for the club and maybe looks better for the club to not have a game that wasn't sponsored.
However I'd strongly argue that giving the club the money (via donation or sponsorship) is a far better use of the funds than sponsoring a Supporters minibus which, for the games we are talking about, Rosey has mentioned only 5 people were previously interested.
Our away support for games like this is literally "come in a taxi" and unless and until demand changes we'd be far better off looking at some sort of car pooling which perhaps is what happens anyway with those 5 supporters interested in the minibus finding lifts for any given match where one doesn't run.
Sponsoring coaches might work where you have a game where irregulars might be tempted if things are made easy for them. The most successful was when Lawrence Cooley sponsored free coaches (Northwich I think) which did make a difference to our away support but in general I'd say sponsoring a minibus is a waste of money compared to giving that money to the club for players etc and especially if you can find ways to get those supporters there anyway by private cars and pay the drivers petrol and/or entrance money if they weren't planning to go in the first place.
If someone literally does not want to give their money to the club for whatever reason but is willing to sponsor a coach then I don't think it should be rejected but if it were offered up as a regular option there would be a danger of diverting funds which the club desperately needs into a relatively pointless gesture.

Sorry Rex but I participate in the Forum as an individual. While I chair the Supporters Club Committee, I do not have a brief to start debating it’s spending priorities without reference to our team.
If it’s members want to ask specific questions of the Supporter’s Club they really need to contact it directly if they want an answer. However, to save time, and as you are a member, I’m happy to pass on your comments. The Supporters Club’s approach to these matters will, I am sure be discussed and decided at it’s AGM.

Enfield, Billericay, Hornchurch, Horsham, Bognor, Folkestone and other clubs all arrange transport to ALL away matches not just Saturday Games. So why can't we? We all cannot use Public Transport for evening matches even if in North London.

If all the people expressing a desire for us to have more transport, used the minibuses we offer, it would be a much more successful venture.
You remember that the Supporters Club tried several times to provide midweek transport at the beginning of the season, after a number of people asked (public transport strikes) and promised they & friends would book; however we could not run them because we got barely 5 actual bookings, despite special low prices. So there was no appetite for them, at that time.
Supporters Club constitution does instruct us to provide travel for Saturday games except the closest ones. You probably notice that we have not cancelled any, despite very low traveller numbers this season, and we have had to put quite a lot of money aside to cover the shortfall, because the cost of the seat was based on an average of 10 travellers and we have had far fewer almost every game this year. It would be wonderful to receive sponsorship of the minibuses, you are most welcome to help out. If a group of people came to me or SC and said, we want a minibus and here is some money, we could arrange that.
Of the clubs Barrie mentions below, I know at least 3 have a LOT of people regularly using 1 or even 2 coaches, not single figures on a minibus.

I am sure you are not suggesting the supporters club run a minibus/ coach to all away games even if only one or two people are on the coach. So there has to be a percentage occupancy to make it viable. I don’t know the costs but to give an example if there is a 12 person minibus and it needs 10 occupants to break even the it maybe considered viable to run with only 7 absorbing the loss. It will be assumed that on other occasions it will break even or the minibus runs full. I can’t remember the supporters clubs accounts for the last few years but would be surprised if the away travel ran at a profit. Even with petrol at current prices the cost of driving a car to , let’s say Potters Bar 55 miles return would be more economical than the cost of hiring a bus with a paid driver. With a car it’s home to ground back home. In 1965 I remember 10 coaches going to Callenders but far fewer people had cars in those days. I don’t think whether the supporters club sponsors matches has anything to do with this. Either there is a demand for a minibus or not but perhaps accepting that instead of recovering 100 percent of cost then perhaps 80 percent is acceptable with the other 20 percent coming from supporters club funds.
I believe the membership of the supporters club has grown in the last three years.

hi Peter / others
I wasn't suggesting anything really. I was curious as to how the price of running a money-losing coach would compare to sponsoring a game. even if on percentage terms if real values can't be given. if someone was to say, we lose £400 by running a minibus, it seems to me a no brainer to not do it. But from what i see (very much from the outside) the Supporters Club must be sitting on quite a bit of money if it has the excess to put in to all the sponsorship it does.
The times i've used the coaches they've been an excellent service. Used to use them loads in the conference days or before any of my friends were driving. don't use it so much now, more because i find it hard to find the time for the long distance away games.
I thought the way my question was shut down was strange. I emailed the address given, but out of context the question didn't make much sense. I've since clarified further.

I thought I had answered the question. The cost of each mini bus/catch is not the same for each journey due to distance and I assume not always the same size coach. The accents fr the supporters club for previous finance years will tell whether the caches have run at a less and if so , by how much.. The accounts are produced at the agm and , no doubt, will be available atthe next agm.. What maybe of interest to some is the question whether there are guidelines as to determining whether a coach runs. My guess is that it’s accepted that some coaches will run at notional loss but there is a point when lack of demand determines it makes no sense to run a coach.

Unfortunately though , the Supporters Club is not sitting on large reserves - despite Jon’s imaginings or assumptions about how much funding the SC give the Club. This information is actually contained in the treasurer’s report to the AGM’s. How the Supporters Club spends its available funds is decided by it’s members and not by a straw poll on here.

Hi Peter
hope my comment earlier tonight helps with the information you want - we set the cost to members based on a hoped-for average occupancy of 10 or 11 and worked out an average cost so that we could offer multipack and transferable tickets, for simplicity. Easier than fiddling around with a pound or two more or less each time, I thought?
I have been very resistant to cancelling even if the bus is almost empty, which has happened for several different reasons this season; I have not recommended we cancel a single Saturday trip.
I hope it will increase again for the last few games of the season - I have been present at almost every home and away game to sell tickets and book spaces, and Geoff & myself have been receiving messages at all times, to book regulars and occasionals.
