When we were still at KM I helped out a couple of times with flyers in the town centre - net effect on crowds virtually zero.
Hmm, about that, Dave. Ahead of our top-of-the-table clash (Ryman Div 1 South - 08/09) against Cray Wanderers, we handed out flyers* together in the town centre and attracted a crowd of 746, easily our highest attendance of the season, roughly double our average home crowd that year, and all against a team without a huge away following. (Our gate the following week against the fashionable team of the season, Dulwich Hamlet, only got 558.)
Statistics on their own prove nothing - but a healthy combination of attractive football, proactive marketing, and a ground in our home town - proved a winning formula that day.
