That’s right. The young owners at W&H say it could only have worked with the council owning and running the ground. They could never have run it because of the massive maintenance demands and costs. Okay the council takes the bar takings but compared to the ground costs it is a saving.

The young directors have now opened their own canteen, profits to the club, a a new club shop and arranged sponsorship deals with 40 local businesses. They made a decision to allocate funds to having the games recorded by a professional camera business and that has paid off for them in spades because of their brilliant use of social media.

The other thing was they wasted no time and took over Walton Casuals juniors when Gale’s son returned as manager. The junior team did not want the association so the young directors grabbed the opportunity and created Walton & Hersham United which is now one of the biggest club for junior footballers in the country with 1,000 youngsters on their books. This has given them more profile and a ready made young fanbase
