In some ways you are probably asking the wrong question.

I can give you my answer which is that I moved to Wigan. Even now qualifying for an senior rail pass it's £70 to get down by train, so we're talking about close to £100 for the day and with the travel 10am to 8.30pm. This compares to a maximum of £30 to see Wigan Athletic and walk to the ground at 2.30 and back by 5.30 which is much what I was doing at K's when I lived in Kingston.

But that's just normal churn for a football club- people die, people move away, people get other interests or families. Our average crowds dropped by over 400 when we got relegated from the Conference and even if some of that is down to away fans or special games that attracted more fans, clearly lack of success played a bit part in that drop.

So the question is really why can't we attract new fans and I think the answer is rather obvious while living a normadic existence. Maybe RPV gives more options for initiatives to work with 15 minute train or bus journeys from a lot of our catchment area but it's still not permanent and there's no option to make the football club a community asset that raises awareness that a football team even exists.
