Manager's column from yesterday's programme. It would be good if this was in some way promoted/spread by the club on the various channels.
"Good afternoon everybody, and especially our visitors today,
Hartley Wintney.
I have made a couple of good friends in Dalts and Cooky over the
last few years. They make a great duo, and I was pleased to see
them get the opportunity at this level. I think they are a great fit
for Hartley and their good start hasn’t surprised me.
It seems so long since we played a league game. After plenty of
cup action, we need to re-focus here and understand that this
game is already an important one.
We do though, arrive here today off the back of a very good
display against Eastbourne Town last Friday night. It was much
closer to what I expect to see from the boys, and further to that,
what they expect from themselves.
We entered the opponents penalty area much more often, and
did it with some structure. That’s the key for us. Sticking to the
script.
Within the ideas we have for the team, there is of course time
for the individuals to do their thing, but it’s how we arrive in
those situations, and how regularly we can do so.
I know it was a great relief to Stan to get his first competitive
goals. He’s proven to be a very streaky scorer over the time I’ve
managed him. Let’s hope a streak has begun…
I must mention young Ben Parkinson. His performance at right back was phenomenal. What a talent.
He got the man of the match award from inside the dressing room, and I think the senior boys took great pleasure
in seeing his delight.
Ben won’t be featuring today, as we will be holding him back for the u18 FA Youth Cup game on Monday night.
Good luck to the boys against Abbey Rangers.
We have begrudgingly lost Jack Lillie to Sutton Common Rovers this week. As many of you will know, he was a big
member of Nigel’s youth team last year, and got some 1st team appearances in at the back end of last season.
A knee injury this summer has set him back, and opportunities to play in our side at the moment wernt coming
quite as quickly as he would have liked.
We all wish him well in his quest to get regular game time, and maybe we will see him back here one day. Good
luck Jack. You and your Dad will be missed….
The atmosphere generated on Friday night was excellent, and it grew as the night went on. I hope we can give
you plenty to cheer about today, and likewise, you guys and girls can help spur the lads on.
Keep working on some songs for the boys. They love it."
