Paul Gbogidi

This has been posted on the Kingstonian pictures page by Les, but thought I would post it here as well in case people haven't seen it.
"R.I.P. to former Kingstonian player Paul Gbogidi aged 60. He played for Croydon, Dulwich Hamlet, Wealdstone, Kingstonian, Boreham Wood, Bromley, Walton & Hersham, Tooting & Mitcham, Chessington United, Leatherhead, Epsom & Ewell, Dorking, Carshalton Athletic, Worthing United, Bognor Regis Town, Weymouth and Bashley. He joined Kingstonian in November 1990 for a five figure fee.
He spent just over two years with Ks and scored twice in a total of around 50 appearances before leaving the club during the 1992/93 season."
He was one of my favourite players from the Kingsmeadow days because of his take no prisoners attitude and put a smile on my face every time he looked like he was stalking an opposition player like a lion going after a zebra. Was a good player besides the hard man image.
When I think back to those early Kingsmeadow sides we had a hugely entertaining team made up of different sorts of characters. Micky Droy who would stand on the penalty spot for a corner and either nod the ball in the net or head it over the bar and then take 10 minutes to amble back leaving it for someone else to cover. David Harlow who you could love for his talented passing and set pieces and hate for never getting stuck in or making a tackle. Frankie Vines of course and loads of other players who had distinctive characteristics (good and bad) that made them stand out and entertain. Later on the likes of Maz and Deano.
Not wanting to start a "jumpers for goalposts" vibe, but football these days has become so professional that we don't tend to see any of this now I think- certainly not at our level where everyone if very fit and drilled for specific roles.
