I’m not standing for committee but I back the new people who are. Their aims seem quite simple so I’ll try and make it easy to understand.

1. The SC will become independent away from the board and not blindly back the board when the board aren’t being transparent with the supporters, or appearing to not act in the best interests of the supporters. A SC should always be independent from the main club and not just a bunch of cheerleaders. This independence is not currently happening and is, in my opinion, difficult to happen when a board member’s wife sits on the SC committee, an obvious conflict of interest. The new SC committee members will rebalance this.

2. The SC will be more vocal in asking difficult questions, questions which supporters deserve to be answered. They will be the communal voice of supporters rather than individual supporters having a loan voice shouting into the wind.

3. Imagine the poor PR if the board of directors ignore the SC.! We are talking Ratner proportions of biting the hand that feeds you. There are supporters who are already voting with their feet, keeping their hands in their pockets. Now imagine that but fully coordinated. The board will soon realise that supporters should not be taken for granted. No club, pro or semi pro, is bigger than its fan base. Having a united group of supporters working together in a SC with an active committee will benefit both the Club and the SC.

4. I’m sure the SC treasurer will have a some kind of profit and loss sheet with incomings and outgoings. Everything given to the club should come with a guarantee of where the money is spent. The club should not get funds from the SC unless the board are transparent with where the money is going. That seems very obvious. The SC is not a charity to raise money for Kingstonian FC. That’s not to say funds wouldn’t be available if necessary to donate to the club.

5. Decisions are made by the committee, that’s what they are elected for. I personally don’t believe the current committee have made good use of funds, and donations have been given freely with little scrutiny or accountability. If necessary, a vote can be made from the SC members. Remember, this is money raised by supporters for the Supporters Club and trusted to be looked after by the SC committee. As a member of the SC, you have the right to scrutinise the accounts, see where the money is going. For example, expensive cost of a minibus resulting in just 2 supporters using this facility to travel to Hashtag. The week before the SC sponsored the matchball vs Carshalton. Surely this money would have been better to subsidise the cost of the minibus / coach, allowing cost per supporter to be lower, therefore more people wanting to use this facility.
