Visit from Kingston Carers Network

By John Bangs9/2/2023 08:18Thu Feb 9 08:18:36 2023

Saturday’s match with Aveley FC is being sponsored in support of Kingston Carers Network and we are expecting a group of 40+ guests - the majority of whom will be young carers.

An update on our community partnership with Kingston Carers Network will be featured in the the match day programme.

Quite.

In fact, the adults will have tickets purchased by the match sponsor. The young carers will have free admission through the Club’s Kids for free scheme: https://www.kingstonian.com/news/new-kids-for-free-scheme-sponsors/3422

So yes, of course they will included.

So the announced attendance of 218 included 40 comps for the Young Carers day? As well as presumably the usual few dozen non-attending season ticket holders and some Aveley fans. How many regular Ks fans were actually there today? Can it have been much above about 120?

Can we not just ....support for the last 15 games?

This mawkish interest in our demise is Dominating this forum.

That is fair enough and I don’t believe anyone is remotely complacent about the situation. However, when we get fans calling for our relegation or making exaggerated claims about our imminent demise, I can see Ian’s point.

There are a few contributors to the Forum who can’t seem stand to see anything positive said and must immediately dislike or make a negative comment.

The Forum also has on it repeated false and probably libellous comments about the directors syphoning off funds. The posters hide behind anonymity to avoid being sued. These are made without substantiation and are ridiculous when one considers that there are strict criteria for use of the money from AFC Wimbledon and that their club have to sign off payments. Again I can see Ian’s point .

They’re not anonymous

Those who run the forum have enough details

As for wanting relegation- few actually want it but there is a practical side to it: rather then being a “big fish” in a medium pond, relegation may give the club time to turn things around with less costs, wins (presumably). I for one think it may be better. Currently we are a guaranteed 3 points for any team we turn up against. It’s not good for the fans nor for the club to be like this. As for “immediately” disliking- there is someone who does a lot of that whatever certain posters point out. A forum is for open discussion not a set party line. That’s the point of a discussion, a forum

But if you want to be Baghdad Bob, fair enough

I won’t

That is one of the bones of contention they should be willing and open to any requests from the supporters, it may be a ltd co,but this is the town football club and should not be treated as their own preserve,

No legal obligation.

Those accounts show the AFC money is down to £730 000.

I don't think that the money has been "siphoned off". Sometimes the truth is less dramatic and more depressing.

No-one has an interest in our demise, we're deeply worried about our future. Even when the attention is more on on-pitch like the past few weeks, it comes back to the budget which comes back to what Mitcham means for crowds and sponsors.

When JB said there were 40 comps I was assuming we'd get a crowd of 250+. A new low even from what we we've been used to feels worthy of mention at least.

I think this shrug your shoulder attitude has to stop.

If this forum is the one place that concerned fans can raise and discuss issues as important as the clubs’s future, then this must continue without the need to be silenced.

Direction, ideas, strategy, marketing and communications are all completely lacking at the club right now. We’re lucky we’ve got this forum!

What shrug the shoulder - all there is is the opposite on here

Even the sight of a great thing with KYC yesterday leads to a board knocking exercise and low crowd discussion/gloating - we have a new coach ( who some folk are anti before the poor bloke has started) and potentially 3 options to get back to the Boro.

I'm not a shoulder shrugger and if I need to complain to the board I do it in person calmly.

We cant solve all that ails us but we can turn up and support - its a train and a tram for most folk - look what Everton fans did last year - can we get 300 folk back in the stadium and cheer them on or is it schadenfreude time?

Nobody is ‘gloating’ and FWIW the recent announcement about the three long term options was well generally received, including by me.

But everybody knows none of those options will happen for a couple of years at best so in the meantime there’s a live debate about whether we should try to ground share closer to home. Only two weeks ago, people were questioning whether we’d actually do better at some of the more local grounds than we are Mitcham. Another new low for Mitcham was worth acknowledging in that ongoing discussion.

We all turn up and support the team if and when we can. Many of us who are most vocal raising our concerns on here are also among those who stand behind the goal and are most vocal in supporting the team during matches.

Cheers Ian - hope to see you there.
I will be meeting with Simon shortly to consider how he, his management team and players can support Ks community engagement work. As you say, this helps us maintain links with the community. If the Club is successful in obtaining a new ground, involving these and potentially other community groups will be an important part of our future development.
