How many times can a team concede the same goal?

Give the ball away with a sloppy/risky pass about 30 yards from their goal, fullbacks bombing on and usually just two players left behind the ball, then look surprised when the opposition surge into the acres of space we've left in our own half and score from the resulting 3-on-2 (or similar unfavourable ratio of attackers to defenders)

We play some amazing football, and have some really good players in our team, but I'd say there's a good chance we will finish bottom of this league if we keep playing in such a ludicrously open way. There's a real naivity to the way we throw so many players forward, and a real lack of intensity/urgency when the opposition have the ball. It's like we want to do the fun bits of 'heavy metal football' but not the ugly stuff.

We're seven points worse off than this stage of last season, and we all know how difficult it was to scrape together the points to stay up in those last few months.

We've just played two of the worst teams in the league and been lucky to come away with one point. Cheshunt were an absolute shambles, had only scored 13 goals in 14 league games before last night, and we conceded FIVE goals to them. I'm not sure we really could have been much more obliging - first two goals absolutely no pressure on the ball from any of our players as Cheshunt had it in/around the edge of the box. Third goal a calamity from Tolfrey. Fourth goal as described above.

This was not a mad end-to-end game we were unlucky to lose. This was a mad end-to-end game we lost for the same reasons we've lost so many games this season.

Really does feel like it's only fine-tuning that we need but it's a bit of a worry it doesn't seem to be happening...

Superb post.

Last night was like watching a team of decent footballers down the local 3G playing recreational football. Neat and tidy with the ball but all at sea once we lost it. The centre halves are limited but we don't half expose them with our defending as a team.

We rid our luck last season but we're going to need incredibly good fortune or some serious investment to stay up.

Eh,sounds like more than fine tuning needed from the above.
Defending is a skill, and if so lacking needs more than fine tuning.
