Ahead of this weekend's game at Margate, Simon Lane kindly agreed to a Q&A with the Supporters Club blogsite.

I like Simon but

‘Firstly, I don’t agree that we have been poor defensively all season We have been extremely competitive ‘

That’s a bit like the board saying they are good at communicating!

I like Simon too, as a thorougly decent man, manager and coach.
Thank you to Simon and thank you to the SC for doing the interview. Sadly, we learned very little from the interview.
You would have to work bluddy hard to get anyone to play for this club that already has one foot in the league below, no proper training facilities and we suspect, a poor budget.
No news from the board, no tangible news about anything, anywhwere from within the club.

Yeah. I’m actually significantly more worried after reading that, which presumably wasn’t his intention.

We don’t have the players - or the budget to get the players - to allow us to play in the open way we do. It’s not unlucky that these players make individual errors; it’s to be expected due to their standard. You have to coach a system that mitigates against that, not just hope that the errors will go away. They won’t unless we sign better players, and we don’t have any money, so that’s not going to happen!

The root cause of all of this isn’t Simon of course, it’s the gradual pillaging of the playing budget by the board.

Yep unfortunately we have the 2nd lowest attendance in the division this season. Although the team with the lowest is in the playoffs!

"as long as we can afford them"

Surely loan players from pro club youth systems are effectively free? Perhaps we can't attract them due to training facilities but that seems unlikely. Something imaginative needs to be tried to improve the playing squad. And/or, as OxfordK says, we play a less open system and scrap some points.

It's remarkable how quickly the reduced budget has become the new norm. Lane can be forgiven for stressing Ks were always going to struggle this season, given the budget. But the Board don't seem to realise or acknowledge that moving to Mitcham destroyed attendances and finances, all at the same time as rebuffing new investment...

Ps. How was the FA Cup and Bryant money spent?

A: Dunno but the friendly with Middlesbrough was a bit shit.

Honestly, if the Directors are going to trouser the transfer fee we got for Bryant (and yes, legally, they are entitled to) then I think they owe us, the supporters, a decent PSF against a League opposition, as some kind of mitigation.

Q. If Zack Chislett had to hobble any longer, would you have played a goalkeeper outfield due to us only having two outfield players on the bench?
