Where is Ben Flatt? Who is Ben Flatt?
Earlier this year, after months of conversation between the two parties, the Ks board turned down an offer of significant support from a group of people who have supported the club week in, week out, for a number of years.
They were entirely within their right to turn down that offer. But they did so while announcing that they were in talks with another individual about a place on the board.
This turned out to be Ben Flatt. He was previously known as a club sponsor who stormed off in a huff midway through a two-year arrangement, so it was something of a surprise return, even at a club who have been renowned for re-signing individuals who weren't much use the first time around.
Nine months on, we haven't heard a peep from Flatt. What is his role? Does he ever attend games? Does he care about the club? Why have we received no information about why he was appointed?
The net result is clear: the aforementioned group, who volunteered in various ways, have not merely been denied the opportunity to assist in the running of the club, they've also scaled back their voluntary roles. We now don't see or hear anything from the manager after matches, for example, so we have no idea what he's thinking, and the relationship between team and fans has worsened.
And for what? Where is Ben Flatt? Who is Ben Flatt? Why are we wasting our time with him?

I see France have just appointed a 34 year old as Prime Minister.
I hope when this inexperienced young chap has built his CV up by running a nuclear-armed country with 68 million people, the world's seventh largest economy and a permanent seat on the UN Security Council, he can graduate to something bigger and a better like being on the board of a semi-professional football club.

I have to take the board at their word, otherwise it makes me realise what they say is complete bullshit.
I’m still undecided if they are intentionally fucking every one of us or if this is just complete incompetence.
The funny thing is how the club’s social media have become Trump-like with their propaganda. Another question of whether they really believe the bullshit they write or if they are wilfully trying to mug off the supporters with nonsense. This was highlighted with the last Instagram post where they wished everyone better luck for 2024, as if 2023 was nothing to do with mismanagement and just bad luck!

Again at the recent manager Q+A, Vasilaras said there would be a ground update either just before or just after Xmas…
Having been true to their word on communications and timelines to date, I’m sure we should definitely expect an update in the next week or so

I thought the reason for not interviewing the manager is that none of the very few left who go wants to do it, not that the manager does not want to be interviewed.
Wasn’t Flatt appointed because he has some supposedly relevant experience of property development?
It seems like a million years ago since the board provided any sort of update but I guess it was probably six months. Surely something has happened in six months - apart from our club lamely surrendering its step three status and not even being equipped with enough players to fill the bench?

If he knows anything about property development he'll know we don't have enough money to buy a semi-detached house in Kingston, let alone a football ground and much less one that's the envy of non-league.

Ah Richmond Road. As much as I remember it fondly, it's a mighty stretch to call it the envy of non league.

We didn’t have a ground though. By that time we were tenants in someone else’s ground.

My point was that leaving Kingsmeadow was actually swapping one ground share for another rather than the board ‘selling out’ as that had been done over a decade earlier.
In terms of are we better off, the honest answer is I don’t know. Was there ever a realistic option to stay at Kingsmeadow for longer? AFCW clearly wanted to sell the lease to Chelsea and Kingstonian remaining at Kingsmeadow was not part of this plan and presumably continual pressure would have been applied if there was not acquiescence on Kingstonian’s part. Was there a risk that K’s could have been slung out with minimal or no compensation if the club did not leave quietly.

absolutely worse off now cos the council won’t ever significantly help out the club who declared it was in their best interests to leave Kingston

Yes, the previous interviewers were in the group who spent months trying to work with the board and were rebuffed because the board had Flatt lined up, that’s the point.

The last public utterance from the Directors was back in July, when they posted a statement to say they had nothing to say.

All good points. But the Directors famously do not read the forum.
However, there is a public meeting being held next month. You could submit (a summary of) your post as a question to the directors. I know they have indicated they will not attend the meeting, but I will be writing to them to renew the invitation. I will also send them any questions received in plenty of time for them to send a written reply.
