Ks Supporters Trust
Views: 2660
In a post on my blogsite, I've set out some thoughts (and work in progress) on the creation of a Ks Supporters Trust.
I stress these are my personal thoughts; it's NOT the settled view of the Supporters Club. There are arguments for and against. (And I'm happy to confirm it would be neither difficult nor expensive.)
I welcome your feedback. I stood for election to the Committee of the Supporters Club at the AGM last year, to serve the best interests of Ks supporters, and fully expecting to serve a full 12 months. Recent developments (Yioryos, et al) have changed my desire to do that but, if a clear majority of Ks fans want me to pursue the creation of a Trust, then I will.

Well the last trust slid into the mists of time with Jim Page and Mark Murphy trustees giving the balance of the money,16000 pounds too Anderson and Winwright to (replace lights at trading ground) they are still using lights Jim Cochrane supplied 18 years ago.

My view would be to set up a supporters trust with the aim of being the 14th part of the KBH. By recording an interest from supporters to donate £300 pa for a percentage of the KBH group. So for maths purposes if 100 people showed an interest (reviewed annually then equivalent of £15000 pa. If I understand correctly the KBH wanted to invest £30000 for five years . So together £45000 with the supporters trust having a third interest. If an opportunity arises for the KBH to replace the current board then further involvement is already in place, The new trust would purely be member based and not involve finance until a Tim arises to firm up the commitment providing other party(ies) agreeable.
My figures are a suggestion and there maybe other preferable variants.

i don't think this is a terrible idea.
The problem is: handing over the investment to Yiorgios when trust is nil and the new Board's strategy and communication is so poor/non-existent.

My idea is for this commitment to a new board made up of supporters and generally an addition to the KBH in collaboration with the KBH. Or if the KBH doesn’t proceed any further then the the scheme plan adjusted to make it more viable. My idea has nothing to do with the current board but a base if a desire to step in to any vacuum if they leave.

ah ok. my fear is that Yiorg, as majority shareholder, will now hang on until the club's final demise. He was opposed to even a 5%( (!) KBH shareholding and one place on the Board (at the very start of the negotiations). Which rather indicated to me - as has transpired - that he sees his own control/influence as the primary consideration when he makes decisions.

At long last. This would be a good start, in my opinion.

Thanks for this thoughtful and informative piece. I have personally been attracted to the idea of clubs being owned either outright or through a majority holding by the fans themselves. I think this irrespective of whoever is in charge.
I personally think that fans owning a small portion of shares of limited value, so I understand your reticence about setting up a supporters trust at this time. My thought on this though is that if we do not set up such trust , fans will not be in a position to potentially take over the running of the club. I’m not sure that it’s realistic to expect the owners of the Club to be committing in advance to selling the majority of their shares to an organisation that doesn’t even exist. I suppose in short, I would say it might be a good idea to set up a supporter trust and then negotiate. This brings no guarantees of success, but far greater chance then if we do nothing.

Please don't let one man, or a body of men curb your desire
to serve our best interests.I support your view. I'm a supporters club member and have read your attached blogsite. I'm pretty much in favour of a Supporters trust, but I don't want to see the SC, in its present form wound up and dissolved into a ST.
Can we create a ST without affecting the SC, even though we don't have the numbers? Whats wrong with running a ST for the sole purpose of raising funds for a stadium and as a further tool for pressurising the current board of directors and holding them to account? Didn't we form a supporters trust at KM some years back with some funds in it?. Quite frankly, I'm in favour of supporting any one, be it the SC, ST or KBH that delivers a trusted route for the very existence and a new home for Kingstonian football club.

I noticed on the BBC football page news Torquay are going into administration. In the report they quoted the Torquay Supporters Club chairman ‘ We are very vigilant as a trust. We have a strategy group that’s been meeting regularly for the last two or three years and we have plans for any particular scenarios. Like administration, liquidation or whether it might even result in a phoenix club’
Rex, I am sure there are many who appreciate your efforts for your research and creating the groundwork. It’s defining the purpose of the trust and the above Torquay example provides an insight into one of the possible functions. By having a trust in place with the ability to act at short notice will probably be vital. I expect the guys at the KBH were well forward in the planning area for their purposes and it would be ideal to create as much common ground .

Do we know if Anderson has sold all of his shares yet? I'm hopeful that a miracle can happen and KBH can somehow beat Yioryos and his cronies to the shares.
