Own goal - or rather a chance to put his point across and he doesn’t even communicate in this damning report

40k will be watching Chelsea Women at Stamford Bridge this evening. Them outgrowing Kingsmeadow football ground was always a realistic possibility.

Which begs the question: what is Kingsmeadow actually being used for these (Satur)days?

That article in the i prompted one reader (a fan of both Chelsea & Ks) to get in touch, with memories of a motion that he tabled at the Chelsea Supporter's Trust AGM back in 2017. Essentially, the group were very much in favour of helping Ks wherever possible:
"The Trust should liaise with Chelsea Football Club to ensure that an open and transparent dialogue is conducted with Kingstonian FC in preparation (and for the aftermath) of the agreed purchase of Kingsmeadow from AFC Wimbledon"
The motion was passed -
Yes: 94.24%
No: 5.76%
Steve included an email exchange with the Chair of the Chelsea Supporter's Trust, which includes "I also understand from our contacts at AFC Wimbledon that all parties (Chelsea, Wimbledon & Kingstonian) are happy with all the forthcoming arrangements."
What a shame that Ks never asked Chelsea if we could remain at Kingsmeadow whilst we looked for a new ground, choosing instead to jump off a cliff.

There were conflicting accounts in the Guardian article at the time as to whether Chelsea were approached by Kingstonian about staying or not.
“Anderson says that earlier this year the club asked Chelsea, via Wimbledon, if they could continue using the stadium; the response was apparently a “flat no”.
Wimbledon have told the Guardian that “it is not true Kingstonian asked for an extension to continue playing here” and perhaps it is simply crossed wires between two clubs that, both stress, have enjoyed an “excellent” relationship at boardroom level.”

I'm not surprised they shared a good relationship when Anderson openly told the world that it was in our best interests to leave, absolving AFCW of any further responsibility from what has now transpired.

The point was there are conflicting accounts as to whether there were any overtures towards Chelsea about K’s staying or not from the club. It isn’t a documented fact either way as far as I’m aware.

Sorry it’s clear the club did not ask Chelsea. Your quotes prove that.
Why would the club ask AFCW to ask Chelsea and not approach Chelsea themselves. Your quotes prove there was no direct approach to Chelsea.
Regardless, in a meeting with Mark a few months ago which I already posted about on here, the decision to leave KM early was purely due to the sum of over a million pounds being given to the club. Had the club decided to sue for a breach of contract, we may have only been given around £300k in compensation.
There was no talk of staying on at KM.

asked Chelsea *via Wimbledon*
didn’t go direct. either couldn’t be bothered or couldn’t type. it’s a scandal. if the answer after repeated conversation / negotiation was no, then so be it.
this was just another irresponsible and indefensible action that has helped kill Kingstonian FC as we know it
I used to think Ando was the clever one. the one who knew how things worked. maybe even the one with a plan. I was so wrong

Makes you wonder how much repeated conversation / negotiation there actually was over a lot of the things or people we lost or were told were impossible to get. Groundshares at Casuals, Met or Hampton. Keeping Dowse, Craig, Hayden. Sponsors and volunteers who walked. The youth setup. The previous women's team. The different permanent ground options that haven't got off the ground.

Whilst we're in a reflective mood, this came up in my Facebook 'on this day in history' feature yesterday. John & Denise Turner's video "Kingstonians last ever game at Kingsmeadow - 22/04/17 v Havant and Waterlooville FC".

Also, in a similar vein, a film from #NonLeagueVlogs called "Kingstonian FC: The Club Who Lost Their Home!"

Good article but the picture used to illustrate Raynes Park Vale"s setup is misleading. The ground simply doesn't look like that.
I'd also advise refering to it as a "cow field" probably inadvisable. Acting the big I am as a homeless club with dwindling support is quite unseemly really.

Yioryos likely cautious that dark forces might try to use his words against him.
Great to have the national press shining a light on the club’s plight though. Hopefully this can inspire some local businesses to invest and back the new directors!

It shouldn't be "the club who lost their home" it should be " the club that had it's home sold from under them by their directors" .

Read it, thought it was a good piece and then went out to buy the paper to support it.
Was at RPV last week. The way I look at it is that they're having to think creatively about ways to meet ground-grading requirements and improve the fan experience within a budget. They've grown their fan base from the trickle that was there during lower-table Combined Counties days. There's a fair bit to appreciate and learn from for when/if we get our own place and have to work out how we spend the remainder of the Wombles budget.
