Hi Rex
I am sure Scott will have full control of the football side of things with his track record and also what went on at W&H.
They had some good players down there and hopefully he can attract them to us being in a more local league as long as players live this way maybe they don't.
I believe westfield budget was 1800 to 2k a week and they have made the playoffs could even go up who knows.
I can only thing this is a great appointment and probbally one of the best in a long while.
Prob since dowse I would say.
But we have not kicked a ball yet but let's see what happens.

Six players who starred in the promotion years left W&H when Scott did. Harry Mills said others would leave at the end of the season. I fully expect these players to form the core of a new Ks team.

Having a quality manager can only help in attracting quality players.

He’s obviously a very good appointment, we’re lucky he was available after being very harshly sacked.
But surely it doesn’t change the club’s financial reality. We aren’t going to be able to afford players from the top half of step 3, especially now we have to pay for training ground facilities, insurance policies, coach travel, FA and League fees, player registrations and fines, all required kit and playing equipment, accountants’ fees, payroll admin fees, auditors’ fees, professional fees, physio supplies, match day security, storage containers, photography, bank charges, Under 18s team costs, etc.
Unless this ‘competitive budget’ you claim still involves using AFCW money on day-to-day spend?

I've read through nearly all of this thread and its a shame that
nobody seems to have actually welcomed Scott Harris and his management team to the club. He must be wondering what he's
let himself in for. I'm no admirer or supporter of the board of directors, past or present, but this appointment fits our current
situation, IMHO. When I went to the odd W&H game last season,
Scott's wife and family were very pro-active in promoting the club with 50/50 ticket sales, merchandise etc, so we are getting more than just a decent manager. I have no problem with Scott bringing in the nucleus of the former W&H squad, if he's able to get them? Hayden Bird did it at Merstham!
For what its worth and as far as promotion back to level 3 is concerned, I think Farnham Town will go through Isthmian Sth central like a dose of salts next season with Jersey Bulls close behind if they come up through the play offs.
I'm just hoping Scott can produce a squad to compete at level 4 next season. Welcome Scott Harris and the best of luck to you!

As you know ,the Club can no longer use the AFC money beyond its core purpose relating to either ground sharing or obtaining a new ground…. And yes, I agree i t never was a good idea to use it to subsidise the playing budget or other day to day operational costs.
Money is being raised through support from several individuals and a far more active approach to seeking sponsorship and Scott will have a decent budget. I think it is also worth stating the obvious fact that ,while some players will simply go to where pays the most money ,there are many who are attracted by the idea of playing for a successful manager.

I'm confused. Yiorg said we couldn't compete at Step 3 this season (even with 40k of wombles money to subsidise budget) so we gave up and got relegated (fine). But now we're.... trying to get promoted from step 4?

Re: New Management Team

I think it is time to remind everyone that we cannot be promoted next season as we signed a two year ground share agreement with Raynes Park Vale and their ground in Grand Drive would never get close to a step 3 grading, even though some work is been done to make a few improvements. And RPV won’t spend the not unsubstantial sum required to bring it up to step 3 if their tenant, who will at that point have one season left on their groundshare agreement, wins promotion. Will the K’s spend the necessary cash out of what’s left of the Wombles money to bring a ground they don’t own up to the necessary standard just so they can get back into step 3 at the end of next season?
So if we were to set a “competitive budget” for the squad next season it would be yet another mistake by the Board. The budget should be set to avoid relegation which is the objective next season. Why spend more and push for promotion? It would just be more money down the drain. This situation all stems from the Board’s decision to agree a groundshare for two years at a ground far below step 3 standard.

Given that RPV only just missed out on the play-offs, I think they have every intention of winning promotion from South Central sorry “farmers’ league” to Step 3 next season and will make sure that their ground sorry “cow field” passes the grading…

Re: New Management Team

But from their perspective they could wait until they’re actually at Level 3 before making the modifications necessary to comply with the ground grading requirements, given I believe there’s a season’s grace period rather than waste money on something that may never happen.
Would RPVFC necessarily spend money to upgrade the ground beforehand given they may never actually get promoted themselves. And if they don’t, K’s can’t get promoted next season.

Scott Harris is a good appointment so at least the club have got that right.

This… if anyone thinks the site outside the borough is anything else than buying half the ground from RVP and jointly developing they’re kidding themselves.
And it will 100% be the option the board says they’re going with in 6-8months time
Probably the reason we’ve appointed Harris and potentially may have a half-decent budget to allow us to have a competitive season on the pitch. They want us to associate the ground with good times so when they announce this, they think we’ll accept it better.

Come on, JB. We cannot simply blindly go off what someone who has continually misled K's fans is telling us as Gospel.
- YV was part of a board that was continually deceitful in terms of the use of AFC Wimbledon funds
- When he arranged his own Q&A for his coronation as Chairman he told us the 'ringfenced' AFC money was used on playing budget. Eight weeks later, after evading a Q&A with Jamie Cutteridge, he decided that the AFC money wasn't actually spent on playing budget. Instead we spent it on things like photographers. Bizarre
- On the subject of competitive budgets and Q&As with Jamie, in the summer of 2022 YV told us we'd have a competitive budget: https://youtu.be/r3DWBuAMLkk?si=UgyIV-UcthjofAwi&t=1544
That budget scraped us to safety to in its first season and took us down in the season just past (aided by the board giving up in Feb).
Trust has to be earned. This board, and especially its chairman has a long way to go in earning it.

I’d love to move on, but it’s difficult when a person says one thing one week, then something else the next along with the fact they’ll never speak of it again… doesn’t sound like any lessons have been learnt to me and therefore, simply moving on is pointless.
Along with the threat to ban fans… I don’t think anyone’s moving on anytime soon, neither should we. No matter how much that narrative tries to be pushed

What learning from the past has happened John?
Has the chairman admitted mistakes were made? Has he given details about how decisions were made? Has he taken any responsibility? Has he said what he'll do differently moving forwards?
Think everyone would love to move on if we had any confidence that things could be better in the future; we've seen nothing to suggest that this will be the case.

"As a board, we want to be judged on things moving forward from this point "
This ongoing insistence from the chairman needs to stop. He doesn't get to ignore or rewrite history. The rest of the board, fine, but YV's unwillingness to give a straight answer while telling everyone to move on is just the worst form of leadership.

At least on the surface it seems like a right result - a proven manager at a decent level and backed up by a genuine Ks legend.
I guess my question is, what promises (or lack of?) have been made on the all important team budget front?
W&H obviously weren't/aren't short of a bob or two. Pulling rabbits out of hats could be slightly more of a challenge?

I’d be surprised if he’d join without reassurances he can have a budget that would allow him to bring most of his Walton squad with him…
Luckily it’s not like Yioryos to go back on his word… what are the odds on Harris still being here for first game of the season haha

What’s a “competitive budget”? That’s just a nonsense phrase that means absolutely nothing. A politicians answer, sounds good on the surface but means nothing in reality and has no basis in actual numbers.
Also, how do you know, John, what the budget will be? Have you been informed personally, unofficially or just a rumour? Or did you just make that up?

Allegedly Harris tried to resign earlier in the season and wanted to leave Walton & Hersham so I am not sure he was “sacked” as such.
He got off to a good start this season with 28 points from the first 14 games but the next 30 points took 25 games so form declined quite significantly.
He did brilliantly with W&H and was widely admired. What I don’t follow is that this is an ambitious appointment by a club which got relegated on purpose. What happens if we go up? Do we have to get relegated deliberately again?
