That's because the board didn't back Dowse when he had a year left on his deal and was also being verbally abused by a moron that now runs the club. I have no doubt that Dowse would have won us promotion to that level.

What load of rubbish. Yioryos had no real influence on events within the club at that time . It is extremely silly to make the stuff . Why not talk for real , with your real name,, rather than with an anagram of anonymous. If you are not willing to put your name to what you say, why should we take you seriously?

Yes I did and I thought Dowse a very decent person and a very good manager; which was subsequently proved after leaving us for Hampton and Woking. I have never said anything to the contrary - not ever.
My objection was to somebody else who will not reuse their real name making up stories about someone else and trying to make out that Dowse left because of that individual. This is a completely absurd load of made up nonsense.
I am glad that you have broken cover and said who you really are. As a former Club secretary, your voice is worth listening to, even if I don’t agree with you. I do think it is better to use real names then pretending to be a cartoon character

Good for Enfield!
However is there a certain level of football where teams aren't allowed Athletics Tracks??? I thought that's why the K's didn't want to play at the Athletics Track. Something about the pitches not being big enough for a certain level of football.
Could be a problem for Enfield in years to come.

Honestly I think dowse run a course with us and his football was different.
Woking sacked
Dartford sacked
Hampton and Richmond left for Woking
Hemel Hempstead left
Think that says it all
Athletics track answer maybe they do not have an olympian multiple times over running it think athletics sticks to there own like football does .

Wasn’t sacked by Ks to be fair.
In fairness the national league is a tough league & didn’t do to bad. Don’t know the facts with why Dartford were awful this season. Though he did get screwed over at Hemel at the end of this season & replaced by Bobby Wilkinson. Dowse has been credited for keeping Hemel up. Thought with Hampton & Working he did get them promoted from league below (Isthmian Premier & National League South) :
Be wrong to not mention the positives work he achieved, given all we see is the negative stuff. Don’t get the point you are trying to make (he’s an awful manager) If so very harsh.

Not saying he is bad
Far from it
But I think he did well with us but could not take us any further that's all.
Was it 7 years he did with us prob his longest job.
I believe him and Mark had a falling out so it was not going to work.
However he did a lot of the pitch as well which was good and not a lot of managers do.
Scott seems this sort of person as well by what I hear so that's good news

Don't think he would have got us to the south
Plus don't think the club was geared up for it either tbf
Anyhow he did a good job and no one can disturb that
Anyhow we have to all support Scott and the lads now.

He got Hampton there just 2 seasons later Foley.
The club may have not been ‘geared up’ for it but that’s a reflection on how poor the club has been run for many years!

From the QEII stadium wikipedia below. It seems that Enfield Town had a different situation to the Kingsmeadow athletics track
"By 2008, the venue had fallen into disuse. The running track was reduced from eight lanes to six during the refurbishment from 2008 to 2010"

the inside lane would still be 400m. the pitch would be the same
and of course things are different but having a site with most of the infrastructure in place is so much more of a head start than anything else we’ve been suggested

I guess where there is a will there is a way comes to mind. Nothing at the athletics track sounds impossible if there was the will there to work on it.
Our situation sounds closer to Chelmsford. From Chelmsfords wikipedia.
The pitch at the ground was too small
"It hosted Chelmsford City Ladies matches, as the pitch inside the track was too small for men's football"
But looks like those obstacles were overcome and that the athletics club still used the stadium.

My understanding is that Kingston Council will in some months be re-tendering for a further 10 year period for an organisation to run the site as an athletics and wellness centre on a similar basis to at present. This makes an option of developing a football stadium combined with athletics problematic. Even if whoever wins the tender was interested in enhancing the footballing facilities, a 10 year period would not give the security that would be so essential.
This position would also make it more difficult to source grant funding

it’s not perfect but it’s way more achievable, better for the community and better value than any other project.
the tenure that could be offered by the council is the most secure tennancy there is. Because we’ve seen what happens when it ends up in the hands of a private company

It's a management contract to run the athletics and gym facilities, along with a bunch of other sites in the borough. We wouldn't be expecting them to 'enhance the football facilities' and the length of their management contract is irrelevant to whatever the Council might agree with us. Obviously there'd be some negotiation around who does what but it's not a serious barrier if there was the political will.

Re: Congrats enfiield town

The major issue with all three options that I believe are the most plausible is money.
The Athletics track would require a lot of investment and I don't see who is going to fund this due to the restrictions on the site and its use for Athletics. FA/football foundation grants would not be a possibility on it. You'd need to sort the pitch issue out, get two new stands, separate changing rooms, new bar/Club house, dugouts etc.
With regards to an option like the University, this would require even more money to fence it all off, put in floodlights, and provide all of the above, but you would be able to apply for pitch and facility grants. The main issue is that it would cost many millions.
Finally, and option like Chalky Lane would also require a massive investment. We played an away game there last week and it would cost well in excess of 2 million according to someone in charge of maintenance at our home ground.
Unless someone is going to pump in at least 1-2 million of their own money, I don't see how these options are going to work.

Spot on unfortunately. The board, both old and new, have been consistently blasé about how little money we have and how easy it will be to get grants to pay 80%+ of the stadium cost. It's a shame we've wasted so much because whatever option we went for £1m in 2017 could have done so much more than £650k today or whatever we have left. All the new grounds that teams in our league have built have cost millions.

Chelmsford is absolutely the best template to copy, it hosts regular athletics to the same level as KM and also allows fans behind the goal in proper terracing. I gave the board details the night after the fans forum in summer 2022 and suggested they reach out.
As Jon says, lane 1 of every track is the same size and shape so they'll have done something to reconfigure the field events. If there was a will we could do the same.
Interesting that the refurb cost them £1m, we used to have that ourselves but have instead squandered a huge chunk on day to day running costs in order to protect the playing budget. What a waste.
