Interview with the (new) Manager
Views: 1573
Scott talks to Jamie Cutteridge about why he chose to come to Kingstonian, how he’s assembling his squad for next season, and his plans for the future. It’s a superb interview - we hope you enjoy it!
You can view it on the SC blogsite at: https://comeonuks.wordpress.com/2024/05/17/interview-with-scott-harris/
Many thanks to them both.

This was very good, a really refreshing interview from Scott. Thanks to Jamie for conducting it and the SC for facilitating.
Clearly, he knows the club very well and it's nice to hear a manager be able to speak knowledgeably about our history beyond just Wembley. He was also realistic about the situation we find ourselves in now - we need this sort of honesty from senior figures at the club, rather than expecting that we can just ignore or move on from the fact that the last few years have been, as Scott correctly puts it, traumatic.
He spoke very well about the ground while not making naive promises. He acknowledges people's scepticism and the limits of what he does and doesn't know. This is all we can expect from the manager and stands in contrast to, for example, Bird telling us Lovelace would be 'the envy of non-league'. On RPV/ground grading he does similar, saying what he knows/thinks while acknowledging his limits.
It's so important that he understands and acknowledges the mood of the fanbase and 'where people are at with it all' while also making an understandable plea for people to give his team a chance. I daresay he has enough on his plate managing the team but quite frankly he could probably give the club some good comms advice right now.
I can't say I've followed the Southern League to really know any of these new players but clearly their record is good and they ought to well in Isthmian 1 South Central. So hopefully we'll have a chance to sustain a playoff challenge for the first time since Dowse was manager and they ought to be fun to watch.
This should be an exciting time but what a shame things are in such a bad state off the pitch. I remain totally unconvinced that such an accomplished team is affordable budget-wise (and 'Friends of Kingstonian' has hardly had a successful launch). And of course the club is still blundering into totally unnecessary own goals when it comes to relations with the fans, as particularly shown this week.
Anyway, good luck to Scott and welcome to Ks, I was very impressed with how he spoke in this interview.

Good to see J still has a platform somewhere, thanks to all for facilitating.
Excellent interview as always Jamie, shame the official channels don't get the mutual benefit

Totally agree John. It’s great to see real fans volunteering for the club to improve communications without an agenda!

I also thought it was encouraging to hear that Scott is hoping to include in his squad some of the young players coming out of Nigel James’ excellent under 18s teams.

Me too, and I think 2-3 is the right number, you’re very unlikely to get more than that who are good enough for this level from one group.
It did make me wonder how big our squad is going to be though. We’ve signed 8 already I believe, then he mentioned keeping potentially 2-3 of current squad (fingers crossed for Rob and Eddie), 2-3 U18s and 4-5 non W&H…
Seeing as we struggled to fill a bench last year it seems like a big squad

Agreed, glad to hear the SC has actually been proactive in helping the fans hear from the manager which is obviously too difficult for the LTD to arrange. Not that they have a good record with fan interaction
Thank you again to Jamie for taking his time to conduct the interview
