Today's game

Just thought today was pretty strange all round.

Eight goals but zero atmosphere. Second half was ploddy and back to the crazy passing it around the six yard box whilst almost trying to give up a four goal lead but for some poor finishing and great saves.

The team certainly seemed more upbeat and had more zip at the cup match during the week. Even the goal celebrations seemed muted and subdued today - almost mechanical.

19 goals in three games must surely be impressive but I walked out through the gate thinking "meh" after watching eight goals.

Maybe just me or am I missing something?

I agree about the atmosphere, but I think it's just because none of it matters. The club is being run by a bunch of clowns and is in a death spiral. That sort of background isn't easy to ignore, even with five goals being scored.

Agree. It was a shame I couldn't make the Surrey Cup game, I enjoy that competition and think this team could have a good cracking at winning it. Looking forward to the draw for the next round.

But we're out the Cup, out the Trophy, didn't enter the Turvey. And it's just really hard to care about the league because fundamentally I think getting promoted would be bad for the club. We know from last season that we can't compete financially at that level and if we had to try it would only encourage the board to spend more AFC money that should be saved for the ground hunt.

It's also just been a bit difficult to get excited about beating some of these teams we've been playing against. They've just been so bad. Sorry that sounds arrogant, we shouldn't act like this level is beneath us - it's not, that's how the pyramid works - but they feel like...pre-season games?

The lack of a roof down the far end makes it difficult to get an atmosphere going, too. No offence intended to RPV as I've enjoyed the experience so far. Easy to get to, nice bar, outdoor bar next to the game, friendly enough staff, no complaints. But you need a roof for atmosphere!

Also feels like we don't know the players / the coach at all. In previous years we had post-match interviews and I grew to like Hayden and Craig and Tommy and Simon.

Hopefully this can improve going forward. Despite concerns re budget etc I'd still like us to go up.

Was with my dad at the game. Felt scared to utter any former players name incase I was assaulted.

Funnily enough when he asked what happened to the lad who threatened to beat the crap out of the fan who mentioned Rob Tolfrey I said I was told by a director it was decided to not upset the manager so no action.

His response "spineless c**ts"

One director in front of us whoy dad doesn't know is a director scurried off the moment he said that 🤣
