Tears for Fears

It is nearly three months since Yiorg promised the return of Tears for Fears at kick-off...
From The Times today:
"Tijuana Taxi by Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass has played as Leyton Orient's players emerge from the tunnel for almost 60 years... it says something about the sense of humour at a club who don't take themselves too seriously and which has always been in the shadows of more vaunted London neighbours..."

I can’t stand Enter Sandman but that’s beside the point. We’ll never find a song nobody dislikes and the last thing we want to do is focus group it to death and end up with Chelsea Dagger or some other generic ‘hype’ song used for all sports the world over.
But what it speaks to is the lack of identity of what this football club is trying to be. On the one hand it pushes a teddy bear mascot to be family friendly, then the players run out to an aggressive heavy metal song about giving children nightmares. Are we supposed to believe that Kingstonian Ted helps young carers on a Saturday morning, cheers on the Ks in the afternoon and then at night he’s in the middle of a mosh pit? Come on. In less than a decade we’ve had five grounds, ten permanent managers and become even more disconnected from the town we purportedly represent. At least let’s hang on to some traditions.
If the manager thinks it hypes the players up, play it in the dressing room first. Craig Edwards never saw fit to replace our club song with Ring a Ding Ding over the PA. But if the manager is insisting, isn’t the compromise to play Tears for Fears at full time, which we’ve done at least once this season but have now stopped again (unless I missed it, the PA is quite weak in parts of the ground), Win, lose or draw surely we can all accept the sentiment that everybody wants to rule the world.

Despite it being the most overplayed Metallica song (& it being in the top 3 of my 'damn it man you could have picked any other song by this band, literally any other song' category) I'm happy we use Enter Sandman & haven't opted for generic mainstream Kiss FM crap but nothing beats tradition. For me, your humble average nearly-40 Kingstonian supporter, Everybody Wants to Rule The World is Kingstonian. I hear the song in the wild & my brain wants to look for the nearest opening that a football team could potentially walk out of.
But having said all that, we don't own the club & if we don't like it we can fuck off & start our own one (when can we fuck off & start our own one?)

agree and SDG only ever had the best posts
would say the song is about corruption rather than being solely a positive message but maybe I’m wrong to look that deep. or maybe that’s the exact reason it’s needed

If Yiorg made a promise, he should keep it.
And if he doesn't want to continue with Tears for Fears, he should consult the supporters at his next regular Meet the Fans event.

I agree with you Tairmour but I do sympathise with damo, personally would have to be left field the song & not the typical ones you hear. Problem is with crowds of up to 200 it’s redundant what we walk out to & I don’t know when that’ll improve

I think this song is massively boring and doesn’t hype the players or crowd before kick off. The only reason for wanting it is because of tradition’s sake. It was an awful choice when it was first used. I’m happy with the current walk out song, ‘Enter Sandman’ by Metallica. Plus, the choice should be up to Scott, whatever song he thinks will motivate the players as they walk out.

I'm sorry to say that, while I tend to like tradition, I agree fully with Damo.
It's a dreary, depressing song that sounds even more boring on a wet Wednesday night when players shuffle out in front of 120 fans.
I actually dislike Metallica, but the song works for me.

What was the tradition before it became traditional to play that bland pop song by tears for fears?

If you need Metallica to get you up for a game against Binfield you shouldn't be at this football club.
