New groundshare?

By LeedsKs (JBreeze)18/3 19:28Wed Mar 18 19:28:03 2026

On the face of it this move seems terrible.

HOWEVER

If this is the LAST groundshare before a move back to Kingston Borough would we not suck it up and take it? I would.

If this is the case then two years of pain to secure the future of Kingstonian seems worth it to me.

I hope the board calls an open meeting to clarify this. We are all adults and can have an adult conversation, we often have. At the end of the day we are all here because we love this club and want it to succeed.

I get the all guns blazing approach. We all love this club.

I just want clarity and if it was for only two seasons whilst we sorted out our new home id take it in a heartbeat

I think you’re right
If it was the last one everyone would accept it

but there’s been no real info on this new ground. the last we heard was it would be ready in approx 18 months. that was 6 months ago.

maybe it is happening. maybe there’s excellent work behind the scenes. if there’s not then Ashford will kill the club, so I really hope there’s big plans and big money that hasn’t yet been disclosed

If there was any chance of big money that hadn't been disclosed, Anderson and co would still be there.

With all due respect, this is meaningless hypothetical dreaming based upon almost nothing. There is no reason to believe that anyone involved in running the club has the competence to pull off such a large project.

Of course. But we’ve been told a new ground is 2-3 seasons away at the start of every groundshare… except this one, which is worrying that the board don’t even think they can pedal that at the start of this one.

We all want clarity, but we haven’t had it for 10+ years hence the frustration. So not sure what your hypothetical point is?

I hear you

Communication is a massive issue here!

What's needed is a solid ground update! Two years is the max limit I would take!

If I knew this was the last then I think fans would take it ?

But every time you make a new ground share you lose another 20-30% of fans. So yes they’ll be a core 100-150 match going fans who will take it by the end of this ground share.

So if we do get a ground in 3 years time and at this point I’d be surprised. You’re talking about 150 fanbase to build from.

Yeah. Even the maths don't add up. But like I said below, that's incompetence, right? Already our avg crowds at Ashford are 60 down on RPV. That could be £15k a season in immediate income decline, not to mention the sponsors who have been shunned and the long term damage of giving up on Kingston. Absolute club killers.

Yeah apparently RPV renewal was definitely on the table but Ashford was a great deal. Wonder if the £15k income decline was taken into account when that was analysed, I’d bet probably not.

Great idea. First question - why do we need a 2/3 year groundshare when the chairman told us 6 months ago our new ground was 18 months away. We must be close now.

Don't think you'd be able to get back midweek by bus from Cobham and its outside oyster zone so would we maybe double the price

Might as well have asked Bedfont Sports.
One bus from Kingston, New Malden, Worcester Park, Teddington (SL7 regular 15min service) and a short walk to the ground. Imber Court? Would Met Pol have entertained it?

I'd have thought Bedfont is a much better than Ashford Town. One bus from Central Kingston, limited stopping to Hatton Cross, and there are buses from there if the walk's too much. And when we're considering grounds so far away from home, surely accessibility has to be top priority? (Unless the deal we're getting at Ashford Town is so advantageous that our powers that be consider it's worth sacrificing a bit of attendance money).

It - like every other option this and previous boards have contemplated or committed to - is also outside Kingston.

The lingering death of the club gains momentum
with this dreadful move to Ashford, sad times for
all us supporters who now just feel totally unable
to look beyond the demise of our great club.
